Despite Charleston’s reputation as a top destination for special events and festivals, the region’s events calendar tends to be a bit sparser during the summer months. Unless, that is, you are on Daniel Island. This summer, an endless stream of new and returning activities, concerts and events will keep island residents and visitors of all ages busy all summer long.

Here are ten great reasons to stay on-island this summer to enjoy the best of Lowcountry living:

Daniel Island’s Family Circle Cup stadium overlooks the Wando River and is the perfect size for national bands like Boston, Earth Wind & Fire, Brian Adams, The Counting Crows, Sublime and O.A.R., all of whom will be performing in the coming months. Click here for the schedule.

ECCO Golf Ball Fundraiser

Daniel Island Club
This two-day affair brings together local business leaders, philanthropists and friends for an anniversary celebration for East Cooper Community Outreach, which has served the community for 25 years. A Golf Tournament takes place on the Ralston Creek course on Tuesday, May 12th, followed by a gala at the Daniel Island Club clubhouse on Friday, May 15. Health & Fitness Expo at FC Tennis Center

The Summer Soiree

This is not your typical pool party! Featuring a live performance by Charleston’s favorite party and dance band along with a fabulous menu and tropical beverages, the Summer Soiree is a poolside celebration that marks the beginning of summer. Residents and their guests will enjoy a feast of a whole smoked pig, chicken, sliders and summer salads as they listen and dance under the stars to the sounds of the East Coast Party Band. Contact the Daniel Island Property Owners’ Association for more information.

Happy Hour 5K Trail Series
May 28 – Aug 27
This Thursday evening summer 5K series returns for the second year to the island with its quixotic racing style. The four-part race series is a trail run along the waterfront and through the trees, with a specially-themed awards and post-race party at each event. Post-race “Happy Hours” will rotate between four fantastic spots on Daniel Island. There will be overall series winners and an extra special celebration at the conclusion of the final race. Kayak & SUP Challenge & Family Fun Float

This is the second year that the Daniel Island Rotary Club has presented this family-friendly event on the banks of the Wando River. DI Kids Triathlon

It’s the tenth anniversary of this signature Daniel Island health and fitness event. The race allows children of all ages to compete in running, cycling and swimming on the trails and waters of Daniel Island. The event takes place from 7-11 am. Visit www.charleston-sc.gov for more information.

History Under the Stars Campout

Smythe Lake
This annual summer event is sponsored by the Daniel Island Historical Society. Residents of all ages set up camp on the banks of Smythe Lake for a movie, storytelling, a campfire and s’mores, plus a delicious breakfast the following morning. Event registration takes place on Active.com.

Unity Music & Arts Festival
June 20, noon – 6 pm
Family Circle Tennis Center
Island residents and businesses will be experiencing the joy of community through music and art at this afternoon arts festival on the lawn of the island’s tennis center. The work of over 40 local artists will be on display and musicians from throughout the area will represent a wide range of diverse music on the main stage throughout the festival.

Kids Fishing Tournament

Smyth Lake
This is a Father’s Day weekend tradition in Charleston’s island town. Daniel Island children ages 4 to 15 are eligible to enter as anglers in the tournament on the island’s Smythe Lake (all children must be accompanied by an adult).
