Springtime Events on Daniel Island and in Charleston
Spring is just around the corner and throughout the Lowcountry plans are being finalized for special events of all kinds. If you live here, there are lots of ways to get involved. Here on Daniel Island, the folks at the Family Circle Tennis Center are finalizing plans for the 40th anniversary of the Family Circle Cup. This nationally-televised WTA event takes place March 31 – April 8. It’s going to be a big year: In addition to celebrating 40 years, the tournament has already confirmed a top line-up for the competition this year, including both Serena and Venus Williams. Meanwhile, in downtown Charleston, food lovers from around the country will gather for the annual BBT Charleston Wine + Food Festival March 1 – 4. This nationally-claimed festival brings in celebrity chefs from around the country and hosts an array of events ranging from upscale wine tastings to book signings and cooking demonstrations. The Daniel Island Club’s Executive Chef Tyler Dudley will be participating again at the sold out Gospel Brunch at Lowndes Grove Plantation on Sunday. Charleston Fashion Week is yet another exciting event that takes place downtown March 20 – 24. This five-night celebration will feature more than 30 runway shows and will showcase emerging designer and model talent from up and down the east coast. Click here for more information.
Wrapping up an active month, and just as the Family Circle Cup is getting started, the annual Cooper River Bridge Run takes place March 31st. Over 40,000 runners annually make the trek from Mt. Pleasant to downtown Charleston over the scenic Ravenel Bridge. For information, visit bridgerun.com.
