Homegrown Favorites Hootie & The Blowfish Return to Daniel Island
Hootie fans from miles around came out to Family Circle Stadium this past weekend, August 17 and 18, to get their fix of the band’s classics like, “Let Her Cry” and “Hold My Hand,” but the annual “Homegrown Tour” offers more than just entertainment. Each year, concertgoers are asked to bring school supplies to be donated to Charleston County schools. Over the past 10 years the charitable effort has collected enough supplies to fill more than 30 school buses!
“We’re blessed we get to make our music and share it with our fans and be able to make an impact on the community,” said Band member Jim “Soni” Sonefeld.
The two-day concert event opened Friday night with up-and-coming country music songwriter Justin Moore. On Saturday, Atlanta-based rock band Collective Soul kicked off the evening.
If you happened to miss this year’s “Homegrown Tour” weekend plan early and mark your calendars for next year. Hootie doesn’t tour regularly anymore, but band members have pledged to continue to return to Daniel Island’s Family Circle Stadium in support of Charleston County’s schools and students for years to come.
