Healthy New Offerings In Downtown Daniel Island

April 19, 2016

There’s lots of activity these days in downtown Daniel Island, and several new businesses have opened their doors in recent months, giving residents and visitors increased options for shopping, dining and fitness. Already home to well over a dozen restaurants and cafes offering everything from sandwiches and salads to Italian, Mexican, Asian and Mediterranean fare, there are several new options for light meals and healthy snacks. Need to burn off the calories? No problem – there’s also a new fitness studio and a brand-new home for two of the island’s most popular fitness destinations.

Here’s the rundown of what’s new in downtown Daniel Island:

Blondies Bagels & Cafe

Owned and operated by island residents and New Jersey natives Anne and Jon Turner, Blondies specializes in homemade bagels, sandwiches and baked treats. Coffee and other beverages are also served in the bright and airy cafe, which offers ample seating and free WiFi.

Juice Bar

Fresh, cold-pressed juices and smoothies made from organic fruits and vegetables are served alongside vegetarian salads, sandwiches and snacks at this popular new spot. They also offer custom one-day juice cleanses, a great way to start a diet or simply to detox when you feel the need.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe

On any given day, you’ll find neighborhood kids lined up at this new hot spot for after-school refreshments. The cafe also offers a diverse menu of wraps, sandwiches, tacos, salads and sides and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Peace Love Hip Hop / CrossFit Discovery

Owned by island residents Angel Roberts and Robert VanNewkirk, these two fitness-oriented businesses have gained a loyal following since their inception on Daniel Island in 2009. Both have grown exponentially since then, and the husband and wife duo now have a brand new 6,000-sq. ft. building in the center of town to really showcase their growing fitness programs. |

Fit Culture

Another fitness power couple, Sarah and Ben Sands moved to Daniel Island from Washington, DC in 2014. Fit Culture describes what drew them to Daniel Island in the first place, and they now offer a diverse selection of fitness classes at their new studio, including power yoga, barre and kickboxing. Personal instruction is also available.
