Beginning on the afternoon of June 29th, the Exchange Club of Daniel Island will proudly host their 4th annual Field of Honor® display of over 600 United States of America flags. The Stars and Stripes will stand posted in a memorable display of red, white and blue on the grassy lawn median area on River Landing Drive, and in Smythe Park. These full sized flags will fly on seven and a half foot high flagpoles to honor your heroes including military, veterans, first responders, teachers and hometown heroes.
The Daniel Island display is a gift to the community made possible through donations, sponsorships and the efforts of many dedicated volunteers. You can show your support and gratitude by sponsoring a flag or making a donation www.healingfield.org/danielisland19. For $25 per flag, you can honor individuals who, through their service and sacrifice, have become heroes in your life. If you prefer, stop by our onsite sales tent to place your order in person. The POA office will be closing at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, July 3rd and will remain closed through Thursday, July 4th. The office will reopen on Friday, July 5th at 8:30 AM and will resume normal business hours at that time.
Except for permitted events, (the POA July 3rd event has been permitted/approved by the City) fireworks are prohibited in the City of Charleston. Be kind to your neighbors and obey the law. If you are concerned about fireworks being shot in your neighborhood, call the City of Charleston Police Dispatch at 843-743-7200.
Traffic Alert – Intermittent Street Closure Notice for Daniel Island Annual Patriotic Community Parade on Wednesday, July 3rd – Approx. 5:45 – 6:30 pm
The Daniel Island Community 3rd of July parade route from Etiwan Park on Seven Farms Drive to Smythe Park on Daniel Island Drive will require several intermittent street closures again this year. These intermittent street closures will take place from approximately 5:45 – 6:30 pm along intersecting streets along the southbound lane of Daniel Island Drive. Due to the road construction taking place at the roundabout at Seven Farms Drive and Daniel Island Drive, the parade route will shift slightly this year, with a brief detour onto Barfield Street and then back onto Daniel Island Drive along the southbound lane of Daniel Island Drive (heading to Smythe Park from Seven Farms Drive). The northbound lane of Daniel Island Drive will remain open (heading to Seven Farms Drive from Smythe Park). The City of Charleston has permitted the parade and the City of Charleston Police Department will be coordinating and executing the street closure process. We appreciate your patience during this time in order for us to have safe passage of our parade participants/residents during this annual event.

Important Reminders For Smythe Park After Parade, Concerts and Fireworks – Wednesday, July 3rd
Again this year, we will not be allowing personal tents to be set up in Smythe Park for this event. You are welcome to bring chairs, blankets and tables. We expect a very large turnout which we always have for this event and we would ask that residents not begin setting up until the day of the event which would be anytime on Wednesday, July 3rd. This is the same policy that we have used for several years now. We need every inch of space we have in the park for the attendees and for our vendors and activities. Open flames, including but not limited to personal grills, torches, candles, etc. are not allowed in the park. Personal golf carts are not be allowed in the park – those should be parked in the Daniel Island school parking lots or on the streets surrounding Smythe Park.

Daniel Island July 3rd Fireworks Show Over Smythe Park Lake – Wednesday, July 3rd – 9:15 pm
Our July 3rd celebration will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display at 9:15 pm on Wednesday, July 3rd! Fireworks will illuminate the sky at Smythe Park and the lake will dance and glisten as we present our finale performance on Wednesday, July 3rd beginning at 9:15 pm. This celebratory evening will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display over Smythe Lake! Join us in the park or delight in the show from your porch for those of you who live around the lake! Zambelli, one of the largest fireworks companies in the world, will once again dazzle us with their pyrotechnic expertise as they shoot the fireworks from the grassy common area along the lake side on Smythe Street.
***Please note that due to city and state fireworks regulations, access to this area where the fireworks will be shot from will not be allowed. During the fireworks show, Smythe Street from Daniel Island Drive to Pierce Street will be closed to vehicular or pedestrian access. This closure should last approximately 1 hour. Once the “all clear” has been given by the fire department officials, this area will once again be opened. Thank you for your understanding regarding this very important safety measure and please plan accordingly.
Should you wish to bring your pet with you in the parade and to the concerts at Smythe Park on Wednesday, July 3rd – we would suggest that you take your pet home prior to the fireworks beginning at 9:15 pm since animals are more sensitive to loud noises.
