Daniel Island Commemorative Park Dedication Ceremony
A dedication ceremony for the Daniel Island Commemorative Park was held Monday, May 4 to mark the official opening of the space. Daniel Island Field Operations Manager Chris Hammil spoke briefly, followed by the ribbon cutting ceremony, accompanied by Jane Baker from the Property Owners’ Association. Community representatives from local law enforcement, Daniel Island Real Estate, The Greenery, and ABC News 4, just to name a few, were in attendance. The ambience was set when the crowd followed a kilted gentleman toward the entrance, as he played “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes.
The idea for the park came from Faith White, a member of the Daniel Island Rotary Club, after losing her husband in 2006. Landscape Architect Evan Brandon with Outdoor Spatial Design, along with The Greenery, made her vision come to life. There are more than 400 etched bricks in the park memorializing and representing both living and deceased loved ones. The park was made possible by the Daniel Island Rotary Club, The Daniel Island Community Fund and Daniel Island businesses and residents.
