Boat Landings

There are two community boat landings on Daniel Island. The Beresford Creek Street boat landing is available to residents of the Daniel Island Community Association (DICA). The Ralston Creek boat landing is located in Great Oak Park and available to residents of the Daniel Island Park Association (DIPA).

These are privately owned and operated facilities located within residential neighborhoods. Users are subject to rules and regulations designed to minimize inconvenience to the neighboring property owners. To gain access to these facilities, download the appropriate forms below and deliver them to the association office.

Island Trails

The island’s extensive 25+ mile trail system winds through maritime forest, along marsh and the water’s edge and through neighborhoods and the island’s downtown, offering scenic views and a safe and convenient environment for runners, walkers and cyclists.

Parks & Pools

Barfield Park – 1179 Barfield Street

This park is characterized by its marsh-oriented setting. Winding paths through a natural Lowcountry setting make Barfield Park a favorite place to take a quiet walk or run. A picnic gazebo is located at the edge of the park and makes a great place for a small-to -medium sized gathering of friends and neighbors.

Children’s Park – 101 River Landing Drive

Children’s Park is located on the banks of the scenic Wando River and is maintained by the City of Charleston. It features a water-oriented play area that is a favorite among island children, running, walking and biking trails along the riverfront and a community pier for fishing and crabbing.

 

Codner’s Ferry Park

Codner’s Ferry Park is a one-acre park located in one of Daniel Island’s earliest neighborhoods. It features open space for field games, a picnic area and a playground complete with a play-and-swing set.

Edgefield Park – 1651 Oak Leaf Street

This facility includes an Olympic-sized pool with three 25-meter lap lanes, a beach entry and water feature, as well as a new gathering space, The Crow’s Nest, that is available for rentals and community functions. In addition to a catering kitchen, bathrooms and large open-air area, a second-story screened porch overlooks some of the island’s beautiful marsh vistas.

Etiwan Park

Etiwan Park was the first neighborhood established on Daniel Island with its focal point a six-acres park that is owned and maintained by the City of Charleston. The park features athletic fields, basketball and volleyball courts, and a playground.

 

Governor’s Park

Governor’s Park is located downtown Daniel Island and is maintained by the City of Charleston. It features soccer fields and basketball courts, a dog run, waterfront trails, playground and more.

 

Pierce Park – 1801 Pierce Street

Pierce Park is a central gathering place on the island, especially during the summer months. The Olympic-sized pool is climate-controlled and an outdoor event pavilion with Wando River views features bathrooms and a catering kitchen. The park also has a large playground and paved parking. Pierce Park is the location for many of the programs and events sponsored by the POA.

Scott Park – 177 Corn Planters Street

Scott Park is ideally situated between the Codner’s Ferry and Etiwan Park neighborhoods. It features a climate-controlled pool, picnic areas with charcoal grills and a playground.

Smythe Park – 2394 Daniel Island Drive

Smythe Park is the island’s largest park at 22-acres in size and is a favorite location for events and programs hosted by both the POA and residents. The park includes an 11-acre lake with a kayak dock, numerous pedestrian trails – including a history trail – and several picnic areas. A pirate-themed playground is located on the southeast edge of the park.

Kayaks & Stand Up Paddleboards

Beginning Wednesday, July 8th, the Daniel Island POA office will resume kayak and stand up paddle board rentals at the Beresford Creek Boat Landing. In addition to the Beresford Creek Boat Landing, the POA has installed new lockers and purchased equipment at the Ralston Creek Boat Landing.

While the POA office is still closed and staff is working remotely, the rental process will be different. Please read the rental guidelines below:

  • Daniel Island Community Association residents will only be permitted to rent from the Beresford Creek Boat Landing
    • In stock equipment:
      • 3 single sit on top kayaks
      • 2 tandem sit on top kayaks
      • 4 stand up paddle boards
      • All necessary life jackets and paddles for rental
  • Daniel Island Park Association residents will only be permitted to rent from the Ralston Creek Boat Landing
    • In stock equipment:
      • 3 single sit on top kayaks
      • 1 tandem sit on top kayak
      • 1 stand up paddle board
      • All necessary life jackets and paddles for rental
      • *Note: additional watercraft will be available in the coming months. The items are currently on back-order.
  • Please note that for Daniel Island Town Association residents, the rental of the kayaks and paddle boards will not be available, but stay tuned for information on upcoming rental options in early 2021 for watercraft at the new Daniel Island Marina at the end of River Landing Drive.
  • Participants must be 18 or older to rent a watercraft. Children must be a minimum of 50lbs or 3 years of age to participate. An adult must accompany children under 18 in a tandem kayak. Maximum of 1 child per adult.
  • All rentals include watercraft, PFD (personal flotation device), and paddle. All rented equipment must be returned to the locker where it was originally picked up.
  • If any rented equipment is damaged, lost, or stolen, the renter will be charged full replacement or repair costs at retail prices.
  • Daniel Island POA reserves the right to charge an additional ½ day or full day fee for each watercraft that is returned later than their expected return time.
  • All rentals must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.
    • If booking for a Monday, must be booked by 12 PM on the preceding Friday
  • Please note, if you would like to rent on a Saturday or Sunday, you would have to pick up the equipment on the preceding Friday and you will have the watercraft through Monday morning at 9 AM. The POA office is closed on weekends and therefore is unable to schedule 4 hr or 24 hr rentals on weekends.
  • For necessary sanitation and inspection of the watercraft’s, there will be a 24 hour time period between rentals of the same watercraft.
    • For example, kayak #3 was rented on Monday, it will not be available to rent again until Wednesday.
  • At this time we will not be offering SUP or Kayak instruction.

Rental Process:

  • Email info@dicommunity.org with your property address, what you are looking to rent, and when you would like to rent the items.
    • Please only email with inquiries as we will need to contact you back with a few questions for your rental.
  • A POA staff member will contact you back with additional questions needed for your rental.
  • Once all of the information has been provided to the POA Staff member, they will send a digital agreement via DocuSign and online payment instructions.
  • To obtain your rented items, you will also be scheduling a time to meet the POA personnel at the respective boat landing.
    • Please note, the pick up time is 9 AM for ALL rentals.
  • If you cannot continue with your rental due to inclement weather, but you have already paid, we will issue a refund to your property account to be applied towards future rentals or your annual dues.
