May 7 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$15 – $20
Join in a very unique and inspiring presentation coming to Daniel Island Club on Tuesday, May 7 from 6-8 pm. This presentation is an event that combines world class art and highlights from an award-winning documentary film Kifaru centered on efforts to help prevent the extinction of the last Northern White Rhinos in Kenya. Much of the story is told through the eyes of the rhinos’ two primary caretakers, James and Jojo.
The artist, filmmakers and caretakers will all be present:
The artist, Bejamin Walls, is a five-time Smithsonian Exhibitor who is bringing a huge pop-up of museum-exhibited pieces
The filmmakers, David Hambridge and Andrew Harrison Brown, will show clips of their new film Kifaru that is winning awards across the country
The rangers, James and JoJo, are the devoted caretakers of the last Northern White Rhinos at the Ol Pejeta Conservatory in Kenya
There will be a short presentation, and the artists and rangers will be present for questions and conversation. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Rhino conservation. Details and tickets are on the event web page www.BenjaminWalls.com/rhino1
All are welcome – the event is not limited to DI Club members. Please help spread the word!
In 2003, Benjamin left home with a film camera, a backpack, and the near-impossible dream of creating a groundbreaking body of photographic art. Since then, Benjamin has logged over one million miles in pursuit of the perfect image. He has tracked wild tigers from the back of an elephant in the Indian Jungle, explored the Great Barrier Reef by float plane, and spent countless nights under the stars. Benjamin considers himself a modern artist, a contemporary explorer, and a results-driven conservationist. His notable accomplishments include:
Seven International Awards
Five-time Smithsonian exhibitor
Two-time Natural History Museum of London exhibitor
Collectors include Grammy award winners, Fortune 500 CEOs, Hollywood producers, and politicians alike
A results-oriented environmentalist and community advocate, Benjamin has helped raise over $350,000 for charity
KIFARU is a feature-length documentary film that follows the lives of two young, Kenyan recruits who join Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s rhino caretaker unit – a small group of rangers that protect and care for Sudan, the last male northern white rhino in the world. Spanning over the course of the caretakers first four years on the job, KIFARU allows viewers to intimately experience the joys and pitfalls of wildlife conservation firsthand through the eyes of these Kenyan rhino caretakers who witness extinction happening in real-time.
