Speakers Series with Giff Daughtridge, Nucor Steel
April 4, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Giff Daughtridge, Vice President and General Manager of the Nucor Steel’s Berkeley plant will be the speaker. In that role since 2007 he manages 930 employees and more than 500 contractors which means that Nucor accounts for 1,500 high-paying jobs in our community. Nucor Steel’s Berkeley mill is its largest in terms of employment, assets, tons produced and revenue. What distinguishes Nucor is its management style where every employee has a voice in how the company is run. Managers encourage their teammates to try out new ideas. It is this freedom to try that gives Nucor one of the most creative, get-it-done workforce’s in the world. This is why his workers enjoy pay above the industry average, and why their productivity records are the envy of the industry.
In addition to his responsibilities at Nucor Giff finds time to mentor existing businesses and students of all ages from elementary school to the university level, and he has become a role model for many. And as Chairman of the East Cooper Community Outreach organization he is seriously giving back to this community. Given this impressive combination of professional and philanthropic achievements Giff was recognized as an Ambassador for Economic Development by former Governor Haley.
Giff spoke to the Rotary Club of Daniel Island a couple of years ago and is the only speaker who has ever received a standing ovation. We are thrilled that he has agreed to join our elite group of quarterly speakers.
This program, now in its sixth year, is sponsored jointly by The Rotary Club of Daniel Island, the Daniel Island Community Fund, the Daniel Island Business Association, and the Daniel Island Club.
