Daniel Island Celebrates Independence Day Weekend

July 7, 2011

There’s nothing like a good old-fashioned Independence Day celebration, but this year on Daniel Island, one day just wasn’t enough. Instead, island residents and visitors enjoyed a spectacular weekend of activities in celebration of our nation’s birthday.

The festivities began on Saturday, July 2, when the Daniel Island Grille hosted an Island-Wide Block Party for the entire family. Complete with live music, water slides, kids’ games and treats galore, residents of all ages enjoyed a spectacular start to the weekend’s activities.

On Sunday, July 3, hundreds came out to picnic at Smythe Park while listening to a “Salute To Our Heroes,” a free concert featuring the U.S. Air Force Blue Aces Ensemble. The next morning, residents fueled up with a Pancake Breakfast, then hit the streets for the annual Independence Day Parade. The grand finale was a Poolside Celebration and Cookout at Pierce Park, where Bar-B-Q, beverages, ice cream and more were served up poolside, and everyone enjoyed swimming and games galore.

It was certainly a celebration fitting for our nation’s birthday. Check out these photos of the weekend’s highlights:

A big thank you to Mandy Hostetler and Cody Burbage for capturing many of these great photos!
