Fall in the Lowcountry is a glorious time. The temperatures begin to cool and all across Charleston families get outdoors to enjoy the weather, fall football, grilling and more. This is the time of year that many in the Lowcountry start to make great use of their outdoor living spaces. Here are some tips from our sales associates and Daniel Island builders that will help when planning an outdoor escape.

Outdoor Kitchen Cabinets

Daniel Island builders agree that quality cabinets designed to function outdoors are a must. One of the many recommended products available is Quest Outdoors cabinets. They offer a wonderful, high-density polyethylene product that is virtually indestructible. You can add a teak door to the front of the cabinet and you will have a long lasting product. This is perfect for our coastal locations, where outdoor areas are exposed to the salt air.

Built-In Grills

No outdoor kitchen would be complete without a built-in grill. There are many different brands out there. One example is Lynx, which makes a Smart Grill that uses Wifi and your mobile device to connect you to the controls. You can use voice commands to turn the grill on and off and set the temperature, and it will alert you when it’s time to flip your burgers and when your food is done. AOG grills are another Charleston-area favorite. They are resaonably priced and hold up well.

Outdoor Pizza Ovens

A new trend Daniel Island builders are seeing is a request for outdoor pizza ovens. One manufacturer offers unique design-your-own outdoor pizza ovens that allows homeowner to add their own personal flare to the way that the oven fits in with the rest of your living space. Brickwood Ovens‘ high-quality, wood-fired pizza oven kits come with detailed installation instructions and precise materials lists so you can create a beautiful DIY brick oven for your outdoor kitchen or backyard patio.

Sunbrella Fabrics

Daniel Island Real Estate sales associates will tell you, always choose Sunbrella fabrics for your outdoor furniture, whether it will be in direct sunlight or in the shade. The latest Sunbrella fabrics are super easy to clean and are now soft and comfortable to lounge on. To clean, simply brush off any loose dirt and lightly scrub with a soft brush or sponge and a simple solution of two ounces mild detergent (Woolite or Dawn dishwashing liquid both work well) per gallon of lukewarm water. Allow the solution to soak into fabric, and then rinse thoroughly to remove all detergent residue.

Outdoor Furniture

Choosing durable outdoor furniture is very important if you don’t want to have to replace it often. Teak is a good choice, as are certain high-quality metal, wicker and resin options that are designed to resist mildew and fading. If you have a front porch, a porch swing is a must. And for a screened porch, don’t forget to include a hanging bed or hammock.

Even something as simple as throwing a few new pillows on your porch swing or deck furniture can update and dress up your home’s outdoor living spaces for Fall. Give it a try and enjoy outdoor living in the Lowcountry in the coming months!
