Each year, our small community harnesses its collective generosity to give back in a big way, and 2015 has been no exception. From the giving activity of the Daniel Island Community Fund to the growing list of fundraising events and initiatives that take place in our parks, schools and recreational venues, our community helps raise well over a million dollars for charity each year. Some of this year’s highlights:
Daniel Island’s popular annual fall festival returned to its original location on the banks of the Wando River on Saturday, November 14th. An island tradition for 14 years, Park Day brings island residents and visitors of all ages together on Daniel Island for a day of fun and philanthropy. A beautiful fall day brought thousands to Children’s Park and the surrounding waterfront area for live music, games, demonstrations, food, beverages and many other attractions. A new resource for residents and neighbors in need in the Cainhoy and Huger area of Berkeley County has opened, thanks to the support of several Daniel Island contributors. East Cooper Community Outreach opened the doors to its new satellite program at 1161 Baldwin Corner Road in Huger this fall. The Baldwin Carson Community Outreach Center offers medical, dental and health education programs and screenings, along with computer classes and other programs.
