Exciting New Additions Coming to Downtown Daniel Island
If you’ve taken a stroll through downtown Daniel Island lately, you’ve no doubt seen a lot of construction activity. The landscape of downtown Daniel Island is changing, with development underway on several wonderful additions to our island town. With great new shops and restaurants, office space for businesses of all kinds, and new urban living options in the works, Daniel Island’s vibrant offering of businesses, services and conveniences for residents and visitors continues to grow. Here’s a rundown of what’s taking shape:
Central Island Square
This center for upscale urban living, shopping and dining is rising in the heart of downtown Daniel Island on Island Park Drive. Residents of the apartments at Central Island Square will enjoy both the convenience of downtown living and outstanding amenities like a fitness center, resort-style pool, outdoor living areas, clubhouse, business center and more.
Refuel Market & Gas
Also on Island Park Drive, Refuel is nearing completion and expected to open this fall. This locally owned convenience store and gas station offers fresh, healthy food and premium quality gas, along with some services and products you might not typically associate with a convenience store. Indoor and outdoor seating, beer and wine, and products like premium steaks and locally-made treats will all be part of the Refuel Daniel Island experience.
The world’s leading cloud software company for non-profit and social good organizations, Blackbaud has been headquartered on Daniel Island since 2000. Earlier this year it announced it would be building a brand new global headquarters on a 13-acre site in the center of downtown Daniel Island to accommodate its ongoing growth. Site work is now underway on the innovative new facility, located at the corner of Fairchild and Central Island streets, and construction is anticipated to be complete in early 2018. It promises to be an intriguing addition to the landscape, with eye-catching architecture and many features that are environmentally-sensitive. The company is seeking LEED certification for the facility.
Wharf 7 Apartments
On the northern edge of downtown Daniel Island, near the entrance to Daniel Island Park, the newly completed Wharf 7 Apartments are available for lease. Residents of this 312-unit upscale apartment community enjoy access to a saltwater pool, dog park, screening room, outdoor living and entertainment areas and a clubhouse, in addition to close proximity to Governor’s Park and Daniel Island’s 25+ miles of trails.
This senior living community is now under construction next to the Wharf 7 Apartments on the northern edge of downtown Daniel Island. Designed as a friendly community that’s luxurious, safe and comfortable, Daniel Pointe is operated by Resort Lifestyle Communities. Residents can choose from 1-3 bedroom unfurnished apartments that include in-home health care services. A community dining room and optional resident dining program, along with on-site banking, a salon, general store and pharmacy services, are among the many conveniences available to residents.
Also in the works:
Although not yet under construction, several other exciting additions to our downtown are in the planning stages, including Dockery’s, a 10,000-square-foot restaurant that will offer live music and its own on-site brewery on Island Park Drive. Also in the planning and funding stages is the Daniel Island Performing Arts Center, a state-of-the-art performing arts facility featuring a 400-seat Proscenium Theatre, rehearsal halls and spaces for social events. The project’s organizers have completed the first major fundraising milestone, clearing the way for the purchase of the Island Park Drive site where the center will be located and the launch of the first phase of construction.
