Daniel Island Event Raises $15K for New MUSC Children’s Hospital

October 5, 2016

A new Daniel Island fundraising event has raised $15,286.50 for the new MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, currently under construction in downtown Charleston. The “Sip Shop Support” event was held in downtown Daniel Island on June 22, 2016.

During the event, more than 40 vendors from all over the Charleston area, many of which are home-based businesses, set up shop alongside 19 Daniel Island shops and restaurants to offer one-of-a-kind jewelry, home goods, clothing and many more unique gifts for sale. Daniel Island’s downtown was divided into four shopping districts, and it was easy to navigate from business to business by walking or catching a free trolley ride. Local breweries and wine distributors were on hand to offer samples of their products, and live music was playing in each district.

“Sip Shop Support” committee members had the opportunity to tour the current MUSC Children’s Hospital following a recent check presentation ceremony, where they saw first-hand the amazing, innovative, nationally-ranked, life-saving programs offered by the hospital’s incredible doctors and nurses.

“We were impressed by what they accomplish on a daily basis in outdated and cramped space. Just imagine what they can do in the new hospital,” said Lauren Hoffman, who is on the event committee. “We are pleased about the success of our first event, but especially proud to be able to donate over $15,000 to help build the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital.”
