Daniel Island Event a Highlight of this Year’s Spoleto Festivities

May 24, 2016

Early each summer, Charleston kicks its cultural offerings up a notch with an internationally-acclaimed three-week arts festival that highlights premier dance, music, opera, theater and visual artists from around the globe in a wide variety of venues throughout the city. And it’s that time of year again: Spoleto Festival USA and the City of Charleston’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival kick off this Friday, May 27.

One of this year’s highlights of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival line-up is a not-to-miss performance of The Ben Folds Orchestra Experience with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra at Volvo Car Stadium here on Daniel Island on Wednesday, June 8. Conducted by CSO Principal Pops Conductor Yuriy Bekker, the performance will feature Ben Folds on piano singing many of his greatest pop hits. The concert is made possible in part by generous contributions from Blackbaud and the Daniel Island Community Fund. It’s sure to be an amazing evening under the stars in the heart of Charleston’s island town – a great place to experience the arts. Click here for ticket information.

Now in its 40th year, Spoleto is a long-standing tradition here in the Lowcountry, and it brings an incredible range of cultural events for residents and visitors to enjoy. From classical music, jazz and blues to modern dance, opera, jazz, comedy, ballet and more, there are endless options scheduled each day, and many are even free. Be sure to make plans to come to the concert on the 8th, and check out the Spoleto Festival and Piccolo Spoleto Festival schedules to see what other events you can check out in the coming weeks.
